Don't be discouraged by my 3 stars. It would be more but it will never compare to my favourites with 4 and 5 stars being a completely different kettle of fish. Plus it does not resonate with my pre-teen self as much as others claim due to cultural differences, but it totally can and i honestly and fully enjoyed it, read it in one evening (very late evening) and am very tempted to reach for what the author offers for adults. So it is a briliant apple ona pear scale that one!! The pacing was brilliant - it wasn't too slow or repetitive, and it had just enough action to make it exciting and realistic. She will no longer let the mean girls upset her. She will not burble incomprehensibly in front of the boy she really likes. And she will most definitely not embarrass herself; either in public or on social media. At least that’s the plan.Katie likes gin, rabbits, over-thinking things, the smell of launderettes and Monster Munch. She does not like losing at board games or writing about herself in the third person.

I had to eat all the KitKat Chunkys after reading the first book. Does Lottie have a new favourite chocolate in the next book? (from Poppy age 9)Her growth through the book is huge and she ends her diary with the message that you shouldn't do anything you don't want to do just because someone tells you to and actually it's okay to just be you. Which I think every preteen (or tween as some in my class like to be referred as!) needs to hear. She openly discusses what her body is going through (or not going through) during puberty and comparing it to everyone else. From an adult point of view, I liked how her mum talked about it with her and celebrated her changing body and didn't make her feel like it was something to feel shameful about. We need more body positive talk! But the trip soon turns into a total disaster. The other girls staying at the camp are MEGA-MEAN, best friend Jess is spending all her time with new girl Isha, and Lottie's diary gets stolen!

Katie Kirby is a writer and illustrator who lives by the sea in Hove with her husband, two sons and dog Sasha. Lottie Brooks is 11 ¾, and her life is already officially over - not only is she about to start high school without any friends or glamorous swooshy hair, she's just discovered she's too flat-chested to wear a bra!Lottie navigates the many perils of growing up in this fantastically funny new illustrated series for a 9-12 audience, filled with friendship, embarrassing moments and plenty of lols.
