Shimano Tiagra 4700 10 Speed Cassette Cycling Equipment

However, a triple chainset is only available with Tiagra so that is something Tiagra has over 105. Dual Pivot Brakes Also, a brief googling trying to understand the numerical qualifiers attached to the old groupset names does not yield much in the way of explanation of what they are. Wikipedia shows e.g. that there are now at least two variants of Tiagra (4600 and 4700). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groupset#List_of_GroupsetsHowever, Tiagra does offer a triple chainset option ( 50 - 39 - 30). If that option interests you, then you will need to consider compatibility with your left-hand shifter along with the front derailleur. Nobody needs 11t, who is not racing. And 2t jumps are just incredibly annoying, making it impossible to keep a comfortable cadence. That's not the biggest difference however. This would be that the 105 cassettes are 11-speed and the Tiagra is 10-speed. On the other hand, Tiagra is available in a triple chainset configuration: 50-39-30. You’ll need a triple-compatible left hand shifter and front derailleur as well.A key difference between 105 and Tiagra is that the 105 is intended for 11-speed and the large chainring has teeth between 46 and 53.

Are the latest Tiagra rear derailleurs compatible with 105 (5700) 10 sp. shifters? (And vice versa, ie are new Tiagra shifters OK to work with a 5700 105 derailleur?) When I researched the issue, people were saying that the whole mecahnicals of the shifter (cable pull) and the motion of the RD were the same as 5800 and 6800. So if you plan on a swap, ignor the 'speed' of the parts and go for the latest generation. An impressive feature is how streamlined the 105 R7000 STI units are in comparison to old versions. It's not as simple as upgrading your Tiagra groupset components one at a time. You can't make the 10 and 11-speed parts work together.
